To be honest, all art’s a bit shit really, isn’t it? All
this modern stuff is a load of bollocks that looks like a child did it. Picasso?
Don’t make me laugh! I’ve seen kids that can draw better than him. But what’s
the point in a lifelike painting of a tree or a bloke or a ship or something?
We’ve all got cameras now. Why bother painting something when you can just take
a photo? Waste of time.
Don’t know why they should spend our taxes on all this shite,
they could turn those so called galleries into flats or something.
I just don’t get what the big deal is. Most of the people
who go on about art are just poncey intellectuals trying to sound clever, but
it’s all rubbish really, they just read too many books. Christ, don’t get me
started on books. Why can’t they just watch a bit of telly like the rest of us?
None of that BBC4 crap, mind, I mean normal programs like MasterChef or X
Factor.
Well, it's a fair point.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about art, but I know what I like.
The mind boggles at the grating ignorance of people who think it's OK to deface a painting because they either don't "get it" or just think it's over-rated. Not just any old painting either, but a publicly owned asset worth millions - you might was well torch an NHS ward because you don't trust doctors.
DeleteFucking Golf Club Cognoscenti...
But the people who do actually deface art are almost always either a) making some supposedly artistic point (the guy who did the Rothko was apparently from some bunch called the Yellowists) or b) a bit troubled in the head area. The golf club lot wouldn't dare to set foot in a gallery, in case they caught gayness or something.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I read about the Yellowist thing this morning - this post is a composite sketch of various opinions I've heard in reaction to the defacement, from people who probably aren't aware of the guy's motives.
DeleteThe fact that some wannabe is so desperate for attention that they'll do something like this is bad enough, it's even more depressing that there are people who think that the vandalism is justified purely because modern art is shit.
